Ice hampered the passage of several freighters near the mouth of the St. Clair River this weekend. On Sunday, Canadian Coast Guard ice breakers and U.S. Coast Guard cutters were assisting the passage of the Presque Isle, a 305-meter (1,000-foot) bulk carrier headed for Duluth, Minn., which became stuck in the ice around 8 a.m. "It was actually waiting to go through yesterday but we had it wait until the CCGS Griffon arrived last night and then until this morning when they had a look at it," said Andy M

Jack was dismayed when Borough Briggs failed a 10.30am inspection on Tuesday and that night's clash with Division 3 rivals Stranraer was cancelled. He said a frosty section of the park soon thawed out in the spring sunshine, and within a matter of hours the surface was in ideal condition for a match. "The pitch was absolutely perfect and playable by mid-afternoon. The inspection was far too early," complained the City boss.

ELGIN boss Ross Jack insisted his troops are heading in the right direction after trouncing the basement boys. Montrose started well but the tide turned against them when Chris Hegarty was sent off for a second first-half booking. Shane Sutherland and Gavin Morrison struck either side of the break to put Jack's men on easy street.
